Let's consider the malfunctions of the injection system caused by the failure of certain sensors
We check the injection system in the following sequence:
Checking the connection to the engine ground and battery
Check the fuel pump and its fuel filter by measuring the fuel pressure in the line
Check the fuses and relays for switching on the elements of the injection system
Checking the reliability of the contacts in the blocks with wires of the injection system elements
Checking the sensors of the injection system
If the crankshaft position sensor fails, the injection system will fail completely.
Engine won't start
Throttle position sensor is installed in the throttle assembly.
If the sensor fails, there is a loss of power, jerks and dips during acceleration, unstable idling
Coolant temperature sensor
If the sensor fails, it is difficult to start the engine at low temperatures.
After starting, the engine has to be warmed up, maintaining the speed with the accelerator pedal.
Also, when overheating, power is significantly reduced, detonation appears
Mass flow and intake air temperature sensor
If the temperature measurement function fails, fuel consumption will increase significantly, increasing the level of toxicity of exhaust gases
If the flow measurement function fails, fuel consumption will also increase, driving dynamics will deteriorate and engine starting problems
The knock sensor is installed on the right side of the cylinder block in the area of the third and fourth cylinders
If the sensor fails, detonation will appear if the quality of gasoline is poor
Exhaust oxygen concentration sensor (lambda probe)
If the sensor fails: fuel consumption will increase, engine power will decrease, and the engine will idle erratically.
Catalytic converter damage is also possible
Camshaft position sensor
If the camshaft position sensor fails, there will be a decrease in power, an increase in fuel consumption
Hydraulic variable valve timing
If the valve fails, there will be a significant deterioration in dynamics and “swimming” of the crankshaft speed at idle until the engine stops completely
If idling is lost
Most often, this malfunction is caused by a failure of the throttle position sensor installed in the throttle assembly cover, contamination of the damper itself, or air leakage through loose hose connections connected to the intake pipe
If cleaning the throttle body or tightening the hose clamps fails to restore idling, then you need to replace the throttle village assembly
It should also be borne in mind that the “floating” of the crankshaft speed at idling of an engine equipped with a variable valve timing system and stopping such an engine when the gear is turned on and the accelerator pedal is released can be caused by a malfunction of the solenoid valves or the engine control unit.
