Removing and installing selector lever Mazda 3
The mechanism for shifting an automatic transmission is shown in fig. 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the battery and its tray.
Remove the air filter.
Remove the console.
Remove the dashboard.
Remove the stability control control module.
Remove the climate control unit (fig. 2).
Remove the rear air duct.
Remove the steering column trim.
Disconnect the clips and remove the lock cable and gear select cable.
Install in the order shown in figure 1. Separate removal and installation procedures are described below in this section.
In order to install the gear selection cable, you must first install it on the bracket, as shown in figure 3.
Before replacing the gear selection cable, check that the selector lever is in the P position.
Lock the gear selector cable retainer (selector lever side) in the order shown in Figure 4.
Check that the manual shift shaft is in position P (fig. 5).
Keep it straight when installing the gear selection cable.
Bending the gear selection cable as shown in Figure 5 will damage the cable, which may cause the cable to come loose when shifting.
Install the selector lever on the manual shift shaft lever so that the spring of the gear selector cable end points towards the front of the vehicle (fig.6).
Install the selector lever on the manual shift shaft lever so that the gear selection cable is not loaded.
Make sure the end of the manual shift shaft lever comes out of the gear selection cable lug. Install the gear selector cable into the bracket.
Adjusting the automatic transmission mode selector cable
If during the operation of the car there is a discrepancy between the positions of the selector and the actual mode of operation of the automatic transmission, for example:
- - when the mode (P) is turned on, the output shaft of the gearbox is not blocked (the car moves by itself, rolls down on a slope);
- - car starts moving in mode (N);
- - car does not move forward in mode (D);
- - the car does not move backward in (R) mode, - the selector cable needs to be adjusted
Running
We prepare the car and install it on a lift or a viewing ditch
Set the selector to position (P)
Raise up the back of the parking brake lever facing, overcoming the resistance of the plastic clips
Remove the lining, removing it from under the lever
Remove the top lining of the floor tunnel, overcoming the resistance of the plastic clamps
Remove the ashtray and cigarette lighter block
Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two rear screws securing the floor tunnel lining
Using a 10 socket wrench, unscrew the two front bolts securing the floor tunnel lining and remove it
Remove the lock forward and use a thin slotted screwdriver to slightly pull out the cable holder so that the cable sheath moves freely relative to the selector frame
Remove the bottom mudguard of the engine compartment
By pulling the lever of the automatic transmission mode sensor down, we make sure that the mode (P) is enabled in the automatic transmission
In the passenger compartment, we fix the cable by pushing its lock until it stops
Checking the cable adjustment
If the cable is adjusted correctly, slide the cable holder lock back and install the remaining parts in reverse order
