Fluid capacity (drain and fill), l: 3.5.

Fluid type: Toyota Genuine ATF (genuine Toyota automatic transmission fluid) type T-IV

Only change the automatic transmission fluid when necessary.

When changing the automatic transmission fluid, be sure to use "Toyota Genuine ATF (genuine Toyota automatic transmission fluid) type T-IV" (ATF JWS3309 or NWS6500) to ensure optimum performance.

Using an automatic transmission fluid other than "Toyota Genuine ATF (genuine Toyota automatic transmission fluid) type T-IV" may cause poor shifting, locking of the transmission accompanied by vibration, and ultimately damage to the vehicle's automatic transmission.

Checking the working fluid automatic transmission

Drive the vehicle to warm up the engine and transmission to normal operating temperature.

Fig. 1. Checking the fluid level using the automatic transmission tester

Fluid temperature: 70–80 °C.

Fig. 2. Releasing the dipstick retainer

Stop the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

With the engine idling and the brake pedal depressed, move the gearshift lever alternately through all positions from P to L and return to the P position.

Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean.

Fig. 3. Transmission dipstick

Insert the dipstick completely into the tube.

Remove the dipstick and check that the fluid level is at the HOT position (Fig. 1).

If there are leaks, it is necessary to repair or replace the O-rings, seals, plugs or other parts.
