Checking the wheel alignment is a must if you have replaced or repaired suspension parts that could change the wheel alignment

Check and adjust the wheel alignment on the car under a static load of 2250 N (225 kgf).

The load is distributed throughout the car: 75 kg in the front seats and 75 kg in the center of the rear seat.

The wheel alignment must have the following values:

  • - camber -0°30´ ± 30´
  • - longitudinal angle of inclination of the axis of rotation 3° 40´ ± 30´
  • - convergence 0 ± 1 mm.

Before adjusting wheel alignment check:

  • - tire pressure;
  • - axial clearance in the front wheel bearings;
  • - serviceability of shock absorbers (no jamming of rods);
  • - radial and axial runout of tires;
  • - clearance in suspension ball joints;
  • - steering wheel free play.

Fix any problems found and make the necessary adjustments.

After installing the car on the stand, just before checking the corners, it is necessary to "squeeze" the car's suspension, applying 2-3 times a force of 392-490 N (40-50 kgf) (directed from top to bottom), first on the rear bumper, and then - to the front.

The sequence of checking and adjusting the wheels should be as follows:

  • 1. Pitch Angle
  • 2. Camber
  • 3. Convergence

Panning angle. If, when checking, the angle does not correspond to the data given above, it is necessary to change the number of shims installed between the upper arm axle and the cross member bracket.

To adjust the caster angle:

  • - unscrew the nuts securing the axle of the upper arm of the front suspension and rearrange the washers from one bolt to another until the angle is normal.

The angle of the longitudinal inclination of the axis of rotation increases when the washers are moved from the rear bolt to the front and decreases when they are reversed;

  • - tighten the nuts with a torque wrench and check the correct caster angle of the axis of rotation.

Front camber

If the camber angle is different from the norm, then it is necessary to adjust it by changing the number of washers installed between the upper arm axle and the cross member bracket.

To reduce the camber angle, remove the same number of washers from both bolts, and to increase, add.

Toe-in front wheels

If the toe-in value differs from the norm, then it is necessary to loosen the tie-down collars of the side rods and use the key 67.7813.9504 to turn both couplings by the same amount in opposite directions; in this way, the couplings are screwed on or unscrewed and change the length of the lateral links.

After adjusting, install the tie-down straps with the slit back, with a permissible downward deviation of 60 ° to the horizontal plane of the car.

When the nuts are tightened, the edges of the slots of the clamping collars should not touch.

After adjusting the toe-in, check for any interference between the wheels and steering parts on adjacent suspension and body parts.

To do this, turn the wheels to failure in both directions until the bipod stops against the bolts of the steering gear housing.
