The operation of the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS/TCS) or DSC On-Board Diagnostics is essentially the same as the previous 323 (BJ), with the following exceptions:

  • - diagnostic codes, PID data monitor functions and active commands functions have been changed;
  • - removed TBS pin of DLC connector;
Fig. Fig. 1. Block diagram of the Mazda 3 on-board diagnostic system: 1 - TCS (DSC) warning lamp; 2 – a control lamp of shutdown of the TCS system (DSC); 3 – a lamp of the alarm system of antiblocking system of brakes; 4 – a lamp of the alarm system of brake system; 5 – fault display function; 6 - on-board diagnostics function; 7 - serial communication; 8 - memory function; 9 – fault detection function; 10 - data control function; 11 – active command function; 12 – reliability function; 13 - data input device; 14 - normal control area; 15 – DLC 2 connector; 16 - WDS or equivalent; 17 - function of checking hydraulic elements; 18 - output device
  • - Using WDS or equivalent with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS/TCS) or DSC HU/CM allows four-digit diagnostic code display and active command mode assignment, which improves maintainability.

Controller Area Network (CAN)

Anti-lock braking system (ABS/TCS) and DSC HU/CM transmit/receive information via CAN.

Transfer information:

  • - about the path traveled;
  • – wheel speed.
  • - front left side;
  • - front right side;
  • - from the back left side;
  • - from the back right side;
  • - about the state of the brake system;
  • – request for torque reduction;
  • - about the geometry of the brake system.

Receive information:

  • - about the operating conditions of the engine from the PCM;
  • - about the engine speed from the PCM;
  • - about the type of transmission from the PCM;
  • - about the circumference of the tire from the PCM block;
  • - about the position of the gear lever from the PCM;
  • - about the status of the brake system alarm lamp (brake fluid level) from the instrument cluster;
  • - about the geometry of the anti-lock braking system from the instrument cluster.
