Checking the parking brake cable Renault Megane 2

Put the car on a lift.

Check the position of the power parking brake cable (fig. 1)

If the power parking brake cable is secured, install a band clamp if the cable is loose.

In the area shown in figure 2, check the condition of the sheath of the power parking brake cable.

If the sheath of the power parking brake cable is intact, secure it to the bracket.

Install the band clamp.

If there is a fray on the sheath of the power parking brake cable, replace the power parking brake.

Install two brackets A and B of the parking brake cable sheath with an amplifier with band clamps C and D (fig. 3).

To check the parking brake drive, lift the drive lever up to the stop.

If the car is not held by the parking brake, you need to adjust the drive.

The parking brake adjustment unit is located in the passenger compartment under the lining of the floor tunnel.

To adjust the drive:

Pry off the cover of the adjusting assembly with a slotted screwdriver

Remove the harness pads from the switches and remove the cover

Turn the wrench on the 13 adjusting nut

We achieve the required clearance A (1 mm) between the stop of the expanding lever and the limiter

Raise the rear wheels and turn the rear wheels by hand.

The wheels should rotate evenly, without jerking. Otherwise, you need to repair the parking brake or rear wheel brakes.

Loosen the adjusting nut of the parking brake mechanism

Pull cable tip out of equalizer slot

Remove the second tip as well

Remove the tip of the cable from the holder of the expanding lever.

Remove the shell tip from the bracket holder

Remove the cable from the trailing arm bracket of the rear suspension

Remove the cable from the holder fixed to the base of the body.

Remove the end of the cable from the cavity of the rear suspension beam, also remove the second end of the cable.

We remove the cable from the hole in the base of the body. Also another cable

Install new cables in reverse order.

After installing new cables, tighten the adjusting nut at a distance "A" equal to 21 mm, if the tip of the cable is black

If the tip of the cable is golden, set this distance to 16 mm.

If necessary, adjust the parking brake drive.

Install:

  • - center console;
  • - screws securing the center console;
  • - center console mat. Torque tighten:
  • - parking brake lever mounting bolts (8 Nm);
  • - screws securing the center console (2 Nm).
