With the minimum allowable thickness of the friction linings of the brake pads, the size measured by the diameter of the pads installed in the brake mechanism with the clearance adjuster reset is 179.4 mm for a car with a 1.4 liter engine and 202.45 mm for vehicles with 1.6 l engine

Replace pads in the following cases:

  • - the thickness of the friction linings is less than allowed (the size measured by the diameter of the shoes installed in the brake mechanism is less than the specified one);
  • - the surface of the overlays is oily;
  • - friction lining is not firmly connected to the base;
  • - overlays have deep grooves and chips.

Do not use gasoline, diesel fuel or any other mineral solvents to clean the brakes.

Change the pads at the same time in the brake mechanisms of both rear wheels.

You will need: a wrench for wheel bolts, pliers or a flat-blade screwdriver, sliding pliers.

Shift into 1st gear and chock the front wheels.

Check that the parking brake lever is fully depressed (vehicle disengaged).

Remove the wheel and put the car on a stand.

If the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir is at or near the "MAX" mark; pump some of the liquid out of the tank. Otherwise, when replacing the pads, it may splash out.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Remove the brake drum (see "Replacing the Renault Logan brake drum").

Replacing Renault Logan rear pads

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Disconnect the lash adjuster lever spring from the front shoe and remove the spring by detaching its other end from the adjuster lever.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Remove the adjuster arm.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Pry off the lower shoe return spring with a screwdriver, remove it from the hole in the rear brake shoe and remove the spring

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Unhook the bent end of the upper coupling spring from the rear block with pliers ...

Be careful when working with pliers or a screwdriver.

We recommend using special pliers to remove the coupling springs.

and, turning the other end of the spring in the hole of the front shoe, remove the spring.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Slightly move the front shoe forward and, while holding the rear shoe, remove the clearance adjuster together with the spacer bar by turning the bar 90° along the axis.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

While holding the support post, press down on the compression spring mounting cup, turn it a quarter of a turn.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Remove the cup and spring, as well as the support post

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Remove the rear shoe from the brake shield, disconnect the expansion leverag from the parking brake cable, pressing its spring with pliers, and remove the shoe.

Remove the front shoe hold-down spring and support post in the same way as you did for the rear shoe and remove the front shoe

Immediately after removing the pads, secure the pistons of the working cylinder in any way possible (for example, tighten with a rubber band or tie with wire), otherwise the pistons may be pushed out of the cylinder by a spacer spring and brake fluid will flow out of the hydraulic system.

Clean and inspect brake parts

Replace warped or badly corroded parts. Replace severely stretched, deformed and bent springs.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Apply refractory brake grease to the friction points of the front and rear brake pads against the brake shield.

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

Lubricate the thread of the rod A of the spacer bar with refractory brake grease and screw the nut B onto it to the end, but do not tighten it,

Release the pistons of the working cylinder from the fixing device, use sliding pliers to compress the pistons of the working cylinder and install the brake pads in the reverse order of removal.

Please note that when the pistons are sunk into the cylinder, the level of brake fluid in the reservoir of the master brake cylinder rises. If necessary, pump out the liquid.

Install the brake drum (see "Replacing the Renault Logan brake drum").

Adjust the gap between the brake pads and the drum by depressing the brake pedal several times.

You should hear the knob click each time you press it. If the clicking stops, the gap is set.

Reinstall the wheel. Check the ease of its rotation.

Replace the brake pads on the other wheel in the same way.

After installing the brake pads, adjust the parking brake

Replace Renault Logan rear pads

We recommend replacing the spacer plates with clearance adjusters every time you change the brake pads.

Whenever dismantling the brake mechanism, replace the pressure springs, spring cups and support legs with new ones.

The parts of the spacer bar and the left brake clearance adjuster are not interchangeable with the corresponding parts of the right brake mechanism, do not mix them up!

The front 1 and rear 2 rear brake pads are different in design. In addition, the brake pads differ as left and right.
