Starter type 5722.3708 is a DC motor with permanent magnet excitation, combined with a planetary gear and with an electromagnetic two-winding traction relay
The covers and the stator housing are pulled together with two studs.
The armature shaft rotates in two ceramic-metal inserts installed in the cover and support.
Four permanent magnets are fixed in the stator housing.
The rotation from the armature shaft is transmitted to the drive shaft through a planetary gearbox, which consists of a central gear, three planetary gears, a carrier and an internal gear.
The planetary gears run on needle bearings.
The starter connection diagram is shown in the figure.
When the starter is turned on, the voltage from the battery 2 through the ignition switch 4 is supplied to both windings of the starter traction relay (retracting II and holding I).
After closing the contacts of the traction relay, the retractable winding is turned off.
Connecting a starter with a controller ME17.9.71 EURO-5
In this engine control system, power is supplied to the winding of the starter solenoid relay through the contacts of an additional relay (Fig. 1.10-01).
The controller turns on the starter relay when the ignition is turned on, if the "correct" password is received from the APS control unit, and turns it off after the engine starts (the engine speed has reached 500-1000 rpm, depending on the temperature of the coolant) or after 7 -20 seconds (depending on coolant temperature) after the starter starts cranking.
The controller prevents the activation of the additional starter relay when the engine is running.
Removing and installing the starter
To remove the starter, install the car on a viewing hole or lift.
Remove the engine screen.
Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.
Remove the rear mudguard of the engine compartment.
With a 13 head, we unscrew the bolt securing the front support bracket to the intake pipe
Using a 13 key, unscrew the nut securing the front support bracket to the bracket of the right support of the power unit and remove the bracket
On a car with air conditioning, the guide screen must be removed, to do this:
- using a 10 key, unscrew the two nuts of its fastening
Capture screen
With a 13 head, we unscrew the upper starter mounting bolt
From the bottom of the car, with a 13 head with an extension, unscrew the bolts of the middle and lower starter mounts
The middle bolt also secures the control oxygen sensor harness holder bracket.
We take the starter out from under the cabbage soup starter fabric and move the protective cap from the contact bolt of the traction relay.
With a 13 head, unscrew the nut 1 and remove the wire tip from the contact bolt of the traction relay.
Disconnect the tip of the control wire 2 from the output of the traction relay.
Remove the starter
To assess the health of the starter drive, turn the drive gear with a screwdriver.
The gear must rotate in one direction with the drive shaft, and in the other direction on the drive shaft.
Otherwise, replace the drive with a new one.
Use a screwdriver to shift the drive gear along the shaft. The gear should move easily, without jamming, along the shaft
To check the starter, we connect the positive terminal of the battery with the upper contact bolt of the traction relay, and connect the negative terminal to the starter housing.
Use a screwdriver to bridge the upper contact bolt and the control output of the traction relay.
This should extend the drive gear and engage the starter motor.
Otherwise, we check the electric motor and the starter traction relay.
To check the electric motor, we connect the positive wire of the battery to the lower contact bolt of the traction relay, and the negative wire to the starter housing.
In this case, the motor shaft must rotate.
Otherwise, the motor is defective.
To check the traction relay, we connect the positive terminal of the battery to the control terminal of the traction relay, and the negative terminal to the starter housing.
The drive gear should pop out.
If this does not happen, the traction relay is faulty.
Install the starter in reverse order
