If knocks are heard in the front drive when cornering the car, check the constant velocity joints
If play is felt when the drive shaft is rocked by hand or the mudguards are torn, such a hinge must be replaced.
It makes almost no sense to disassemble the hinge. This is laborious work, and with a torn cover, the dirt that got into the hinge has already rendered the hinge parts unusable.
Hinge parts cannot be replaced individually, and therefore the most optimal thing is to replace the hinge assembly, as well as its dirt cover.
In extreme cases, disassembly is allowed to replace the lubricant of the inner joint as it is less susceptible to water and road dirt.
The appearance of traces of grease on the hinge indicates that the cover is torn.
You will need: a screwdriver, sliding pliers, a hammer.
Using a screwdriver and sliding pliers, remove the large clamp
Remove the small clamp from the inner hinge boot.
Slide the boot along the shaft.
Knock the hinge off the shaft with a hammer and a spacer, hitting the end of the cage and remove the hinge
The hinge is fixed on the shaft with a retaining ring located in the groove at the end of the shaft
Pry off the retaining ring with a screwdriver and remove it
We separate the rubber protective cover and the plastic casing, remove the cover
remove the plastic cover
Spread and remove the thrust ring with tongs
When installing the old hinge, we clean it of old grease
We clean the shaft and apply a thin layer of new SHRUS-4 grease, put a casing and a new cover on the shaft.
Install a new retaining ring on the shaft
Insert 60 cm of 3 lubricant SHRUS-4
into the hinge cavity
We press the hinge onto the shaft through a soft metal drift
We put a cover on the hinge body.
Installing new clamps
Before tightening the clamps, we release excess air from the cover by prying off the seat belt of the cover with a screwdriver
To disassemble the inner hinge, remove the clamps and slide the cover along the shaft
Pry off the fixing ring with a screwdriver and remove it
We mark the relative position of the body, separator and clip
Remove the hinge body
Pry off the balls with a screwdriver and take them out
Shift the separator
We knock down the clip with a soft drift
Remove the separator
Remove the hinge cover
We wash the body, separator, clip and balls.
If there are signs of corrosion or other defects on the body or separator, then we change the hinge assembly
Rinse all metal parts with kerosene until the old grease is completely removed.
Fill the joint with SHRUS-4 grease (the amount of grease for the outer joint is 60 cm 3 , for the inner joint - 150 cm 3);
Install the hinge and removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
