Checking the ignition lock consists in checking the closure of the contacts at various key positions and the operation of the anti-theft device
To check the contact group, you need to use the tester in the “continuity” mode of the circuit
At each position of the key in the lock, we check the correct closure of the switch contacts
The data for checking the contact group is given in the table
The location of the pins in the block of the contact group is shown in Figure 2
Replacing the contact group of the ignition switch
We prepare the car and disconnect the negative battery terminal
Removing the lower part of the steering column cover "described in the article - How to remove and install the steering column of a Toyota Camry
Remove the decorative lower instrument panel
Disconnect the wire block from the contact group of the ignition switch
The following operations are shown on the removed steering column to make it clearer
Squeeze the two latches and remove the contact group from the ignition switch
Install all parts in reverse order
Replacing the ignition lock cylinder
Remove the lower part of the steering column cover, as described above
Disconnect the block of wires from the antenna unit of the immobilizer (indicated by an arrow in the figure)
We press the latches and remove the immobilizer antenna unit from the ignition switch
Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ACC" position
We insert a thin screwdriver into the hole in the ignition switch housing and pull the switch cylinder out of the housing until it stops
We press the latch of the ignition switch cylinder with a screwdriver through the hole, the position of which is indicated by the arrow in the photo (in the photo the hole is closed by the immobilizer antenna unit, which must be removed), and remove the cylinder from the housing
Install parts in reverse order
Removing and installing the ignition lock
The ignition switch is mounted on the steering column and secured with two self-tapping bolts, therefore, to replace it, it is necessary to remove the bolts with a chisel or drill them out with an electric drill
We prepare the car for the task and disconnect the negative battery terminal
We remove the steering column as described in the article - How to remove and install the steering column of a Toyota Camry
We press the latches and remove the immobilizer antenna unit from the ignition switch
We unscrew the bolts of the switch, striking with a hammer through a chisel tangentially counterclockwise
Remove the ignition switch assembly with the contact group
