The windshield wiper system consists of a gearmotor, linkage, wiper arms with brushes and a switch

The windshield wiper mechanism, equipped with a self-stopping device, consists of a worm gear and a cam plate to temporarily keep the circuit on until the end of the wiper stroke cycle with the switch in the off position.

Wipers are driven by a permanent magnet motor.

The gearmotor is mounted on the front panel and connected to the windshield wiper linkage.

The windshield wipers have two speeds (LOW - low and HIGH - high) and intermittent operation.

The wiper switch is an integral part of the wiper and washer switch.

The windshield wipers are operated by a lever on the right side of the steering column.

Windshield washer

The windshield washer system consists of a reservoir, a pump, nozzles, spray nozzles and a wiper and washer switch.

The windshield washer reservoir is installed inside the front right fender.

A washer pump attached to the reservoir supplies liquid through pipes to two jets mounted on the hood of the car.

The washer switch is an integral part of the wiper and washer switch.

The windshield washers are operated by a lever on the right side of the steering column.

Pause function between wiper strokes

The windshield wiper control system is used, which takes into account the speed of the vehicle, that is, the pause between wiper strokes is automatically adjusted depending on the speed of the vehicle.

This system reduces the need to adjust intermittent operation parameters.

Wiper operation

When the wiper switch is in the INT position, the intermittent wiper relay is activated and current is supplied to the windshield wiper motor, which starts at low speed.

Depending on the vehicle speed signal from the anti-lock brake system (DSC) HU/CM, the intermittent wiper control relay operates as follows:

a) at a vehicle speed of 0 km/h:

  • – maximum pause between work strokes 11.6 s;
  • – the minimum duration of a pause between working strokes is 4.2 s;

b) at a vehicle speed of 30 km/h or more:

  • – maximum pause between work strokes 9.6 s;
  • – the minimum duration of a pause between working moves is 1.1 s.

Checking the technical condition and troubleshooting

Sequentially turn on the various modes of the wiper (wet the glass with water at least with the help of a washer):

  • - in intermittent mode, the brushes make one stroke after a few seconds;
  • - at the first speed, the brushes move constantly without pauses;
  • - to auto a swarm of speed brushes move constantly, but faster than at the first speed;
  • - when the windshield washer is turned on, the brushes make several strokes

When moving on the glass, the brushes should not grind and vibrate, leaving uncleaned areas in the cleaning zone.

If such malfunctions occur, the brushes must be replaced

We raise the levers of all the wipers one by one. They should rise with effort and firmly pressed against the glass. If the lever is difficult to lift and does not press against the glass under the action of the spring, the lever must be replaced

Troubleshooting

You will need a tester to work

Wiper does not work (in all modes)

  • - Check the fuse of the front wiper. If necessary, replace it. We turn on the ignition and check the operation of the wiper. If the fuse blows again, then there is a short circuit in the wiring that needs to be found and repaired.
  • - Disconnect the wiring harness block from the gear motor.

  • - With a tester in ohmmeter mode, we check the presence of a circuit between the terminal (D) and the “mass” of the car.

If the tester shows an open circuit (the resistance is infinitely high), we check the electrical circuit from the point of connection with the "ground" (under the fuse box) and to the gear motor.

Using a tester in voltmeter mode, we check the presence of voltage between terminals (B) and (D) (with the ignition on and the first speed of the front wiper on) and terminals (A) and (D) (with the ignition on and the second speed of the wiper on ). The voltage in both cases should be about 12 volts. If there is voltage, check the gear motor. We replace the defective gear motor.

  • - Checking the right stalk switch. We replace the faulty switch.
  • - We check the electrical circuit from the fuse mounting block to the wiper motor-reducer.
  • - If the circuit is OK, then the fuse box in the car is faulty, and it must be replaced

All speeds and modes work, but the brushes spontaneously stop in various positions

  • - Disconnect the wire blocks from the gear motor. We check for the presence of oxides and, if necessary, clean it with a special cleaner
  • - Checking the geared motor

One of the wiper modes does not work

  • - Checking the right stalk switch. We replace the faulty switch.
  • - Checking the geared motor
  • - Checking the windshield wiper circuit wiring
  • - If the circuit is OK, then the fuse box in the car is faulty, and it needs to be replaced
