When the engine is warmed up to operating temperature and turned off, check the oil level on the dipstick (fig. 1)

To obtain a correct reading, the vehicle must be on level ground.

After turning off the engine, wait a few minutes for the oil to drain back into the engine sump.

Toyota Camry oil dipsticks

Pull out the dipstick and wipe, holding the end of the dipstick with a rag.

Insert the dipstick again - insert as far as it will go, otherwise the reading will be incorrect.

Fig. 2 dipstick

Pull out the dipstick and check the oil level by holding the end of the dipstick with a rag.

If the oil is below or slightly above the low level, add the same type of oil as in the engine.

Fig. 3. oil filler cap

Remove the oil filler cap (the cap turns counterclockwise) and add oil in small portions, checking the level with the dipstick.

Fig. 4. Removing the oil filler cap

It is recommended to use a funnel to add oil.

For your reference, below is the approximate volume of oil corresponding to the marks between the lower and upper levels on the dipstick.

When the level is normal, replace the oil filler cap and tighten by hand.

Oil volume, L (l):

  • - Engine 1AZ-FE 1.0 - between probe marks
  • - Engines 2-AZ-FE and 1MZ-FE1.5 - between the risks of the probe

Oil identification marking

Some cans carry one or both of the registered API marks to facilitate oil selection.

The API classification symbol is located on the outside of the canister.

At the top of the label, using symbols, indicates the quality of the oil according to API classification (American Petroleum Institute-American Petroleum Institute), for example, SL.

The center of the label indicates the SAE viscosity grade, e.g. SAE 10W-30.

The 'Energy-Conserving' label at the bottom indicates that the oil has fuel-efficient properties.

The ILSAC (International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee) certification mark is indicated on the front of the canister.

To ensure proper engine lubrication, it is suggested to use "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil" (Toyota Genuine Engine Oil), which has been specifically tested and approved for all Toyota engines.

Recommended engine oil

Oil volume (draining and filling), l:

1AZ-FE engine:

  • - with filter - 3.8;
  • - no filter - 3.6.

2AZ-FE engine:

  • - with filter - 4.3;
  • - no filter - 4.1.

1MZ-FE engine:

  • - with filter - 4.7;
  • - no filter - 4.5.

Toyota uses "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil" (genuine Toyota engine oil).

Use a Toyota approved "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil" or an equivalent oil that meets the following performance and viscosity grades.

Oil Grade: 20W-50H 15W-40 - API Grade SJ or SL Multigrade Engine Oil 10W-30h5W-30 - API Grade SJ "Energy-Conserving", SL "Energy-Conserving" or ILSAC Multigrade Engine Oil
