We remove the generator for replacement or repair
Possible generator malfunctions and solutions
Cause of malfunction - remedy
When the ignition is switched on, the battery discharge warning light does not light up:
Wire break between alternator, ignition switch and warning light - repair break
Battery discharge warning light does not go out after starting the engine:
Accessory drive belt loose - adjust belt tension
The generator is faulty (the generator brushes are worn out or loose on the slip rings, the generator excitation winding burned out, the diode bridge or voltage regulator is faulty) - replace or repair the generator
Shorting the wire between the generator and the signal lamp to ground - isolate the wire
The mounting block in the cabin is defective - replace the mounting block
The generator does not provide battery charging:
Oxidation of the battery terminals - strip, fix and lubricate the cable lugs and battery terminals with petroleum jelly
Battery defective - replace battery
Loose alternator drive belt tension - adjust belt tension
Faulty alternator (voltage regulator or diode bridge) - replace or repair the alternator
Battery is being recharged:
Faulty alternator (voltage regulator or diode bridge) - replace or repair the alternator
Increased voltage drop in the generator-battery circuit - Check, clean, tighten or replace the contact connections in the fuse and relay mounting blocks, connectors, check the connection of the generator housing to the "ground"
Removing and installing the generator
We prepare the car and remove the right front wheel
Remove the right lower and side engine mudguards
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Remove the accessory drive belt
Remove the protective cap of the generator output
Unscrew the nut securing the power wire tip
And disconnect the wire from the generator
Squeeze the latches and disconnect the wire block from the generator
Unfasten the latch and release the wiring harness from the holder on the generator
Squeeze the clamps of the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness block and disconnect the block
We unscrew the bolt securing the upper holder of the wiring harness and move the wiring harness away from the generator
We unscrew the upper and lower generator mounting bolts
After that, we remove the generator from the car
Install the generator in reverse order
