This system provides controllability of the car in extreme conditions (avoidance of a collision with an obstacle, skidding in a turn, etc.)

The system allows you to better control the car during extreme driving and adapt it to your individual driving style.

However, this system does not replace driver skill. It does not expand the capabilities of the car and should not serve as a reason to drive at a higher speed.

Even with this system, while driving, the driver must be careful and attentive (keep ready for any surprises that may arise while driving).

How the system works

A sensor on the steering wheel monitors the trajectory set by the driver.

Other sensors installed on the vehicle track the actual trajectory of the vehicle.

The system compares the trajectory set by the driver with the actual trajectory of the car and, if necessary, corrects the latter by acting on the brake mechanisms of individual wheels and / or changing the engine torque.

Renault Megane II ESP

When the system is turned on, the control lamp (A) will flash.

If this light comes on when you start the engine and the message "ESP Disabled" appears, gently turn the steering wheel from side to side as far as it will go to turn on the system.

Controlling cornering

The system optimizes ESP operation in the event of a clear skid (loss of traction by the front wheels).

Faults:

If the system detects a malfunction, the message "ESR / ASR system is faulty" appears on the instrument panel display and the control lamps "Service" and (A) turn on, contact a Renault workshop.

Anti-Slip Control (ASR)

The traction control system reduces the slip of the drive wheels and improves the vehicle's handling when starting off and during hard acceleration.

The system allows you to better control the car during extreme driving and adapt it to your individual driving style.

This system does not replace driver skill.

It does not expand the capabilities of the vehicle and should not serve as a reason to drive at a higher speed.

Even with this system, while driving, the driver must be careful and attentive (always ready for any surprises that may arise while driving).

How it works

With the help of sensors installed on the wheels of the car, the system constantly measures and compares the speed of the drive wheels and monitors its sharp change.

If the wheel begins to spin, the system brakes the wheel, reducing wheel torque to a level that maintains wheel traction.

The system also controls the engine speed, maintaining it at a level that provides traction, regardless of the position of the accelerator pedal.

When the system is turned on, the indicator lamp will flash.

Shutting down the system

In some cases (driving on very soft ground, on snow, in mud, and also if snow chains are installed), the system can reduce engine power to reduce slippage.

If the system is not needed, it can be turned off by pressing the button (1) (see fig. 2).

Renault Megane II ESP

When switching off, the message "ASR system disabled" flashes and the indicator lamps "Service" light up (see fig. 1.).

Disabling the ASR system also disables the ESP system.

As soon as possible, turn on the system by pressing button (1) again.

The system is automatically activated when the ignition is switched on or when the speed increases above 50 km/h.

This system cannot be disabled at speeds above 50 km/h.

Faults:

If the system detects a malfunction, the message "ESP/ASR system malfunction" appears on the instrument panel and the warning lamps come on.
