Put the car on a two-post lift

Disconnect the battery

Remove the engine undertray.

Remove the accessory drive belt.

Fig. 1. Installing Special Tools

Fig. 2. Marking the pendulum supports

Mark the position of the pendulum support relative to the body (fig. 2).

Remove the engine swing arm assembly with upper bracket.

Remove the lower tie rod.

Be careful not to damage the air conditioning piping.

Remove the intake silencer mounting bolts.

Remove the intake silencer.

Release the tension on the timing belts

Remove the bypass roller using the special tool.

Remove the timing belt, being careful not to drop the crankshaft sprocket.

Remove the crankshaft sprocket.

Remove the tension roller.

Installation

Replace the timing belt, crankshaft pulley bolt, idler and bypass rollers.

Degrease the end of the crankshafta (from the timing drive side), as well as the hole and bearing surfaces of the pulley, the crankshaft toothed pulley and the crankshaft itself.

This must be done so that the timing drive does not move, otherwise the engine will fail.

Such an offset leads to engine failure.

Align the camshaft grooves horizontally and offset downwards from the camshaft axes, turning the camshafts if necessary using the special tool (Mot. 799-01).

Mount the tool (Mot. 1496) with the tool (Mot. 1750).

Install the TDC lock (Mot. 1489) (see fig. 5).

Replacing the timing belt for engine K4J Renault Megane 2

Make sure the crankshaft is locked with the TDC lock (Mot. 1489) and the crankshaft groove is facing up.

Tighten the idler roller bolt to the specified torque (45 Nm) using the special tool (Mot. 1368)

Belt tension

Use a 6mm hexagon wrench to align the movable pointer with the notch by turning the eccentric clockwise

Tighten the tension roller axle nut to the required torque (27 Nm).

Install the pulley on the crankshaft.

Tighten to the required torque and tighten to the specified angle (the crankshaft must be locked with the TDC lock) the crankshaft pulley bolt (40 Nm + 145 ° ± 15 °).

Remove the camshaft locking tool (Mot. 1496).

Remove the TDC lock (Mot. 1489).

Turn the crankshaft two turns clockwise (when viewed from the timing end).

Before finishing the second turn, screw the TDC lock (Mot. 1489) into the hole in the cylinder block.

Slowly, without jerking, tighten the crankshaft until it stops at the TDC lock.

Unscrew the TDC lock (Mot. 1489).

Make sure the movable pointer is against the notch.

Loosen the idler pulley mounting nut, no more than one turn, while holding the movable pointer with a 6 mm hex wrench.

Gently move the movable pointer to align with the notch by turning the eccentric clockwise.

Tighten the tension roller axle nut to the required torque (27 Nm).

Check

Align the movable pointer with the fixed pointer or with the notch, depending on the idler version.

Tighten the tension roller axle nut to the required torque (27 Nm).

Before checking the installation of the valve timing, make sure that the pointers of the tension roller are in the correct position.

Screw the TDC lock (Mot. 1489) into the hole in the cylinder block.

Slowly and without jerking, bring the crankshaft to the stop against the lock.

Install (without force) the tool (Mot. 1496) for fixing the camshafts (the grooves of the camshafts must be in a horizontal position below the axes of the shafts).

If the camshaft locking tool does not snap into place, reinstall Check the timing and timing, adjust the tension of the timing belt.

Remove the TDC lock.
