When the engine is idling, the controller controls the air supply using the idle air control (PXX)

The regulator consists of a two-pole stepper motor and a cone valve connected to it.

At the signal of the electronic engine control unit, the electric motor moves the valve, thereby changing the flow area of the air channel.

The idle speed regulator is non-separable and must be replaced in case of failure.

The idle speed control can only be removed after the throttle assembly has been removed.

You will need: socket wrench (head) "13", a screwdriver with a Phillips blade, pliers.

Having unscrewed the fastening nuts, remove the throttle body from the receiver studs, without disconnecting the coolant, adsorber and crankcase ventilation hoses from it (see Removing and installing the Niva Chevrolet throttle assembly).

Disconnect the wire block from the idle speed controller connector (Fig. 1).

With a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the two screws securing the regulator to the throttle body (Fig. 2).

Remove the idle speed regulator (Fig. 3).

We remove the rubber sealing ring from the hole in the throttle body (Fig. 4).

Before installing a new regulator, use a caliper to check the distance between the end of the valve needle and the flange bearing surface.

Niva Chevrolet Idle Speed Controller Replacement

The distance should be no more than 23 mm (Fig. 5).

This is necessary in order not to damage the regulator during installation - the regulator needle should not rest against the seat of the throttle body.

Do not purchase a regulator with a needle protrusion greater than 23 mm.

Before installing the regulator, we clean the valve seat, air channel and the surface under the regulator o-ring in the throttle body.

We put the sealing ring on the cylindrical surface of the regulator.

We apply engine oil to the o-ring. Install the idle speed controller in reverse order.

The tightening torque of the regulator fastening screws is 3–4 Nm.

On models with an electronic throttle pedal, there is no idle control.

Idle speed is controlled by an electrically actuated throttle valve on a signal from the controller.
