The traction control system automatically helps prevent front wheel slip when starting off and accelerating the vehicle on slippery road surfaces
If the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, the system will turn on automatically.
On a slippery road, under some conditions, full traction of the front wheels with the road, as well as full drive power to the wheels, is not provided even with the traction control system on.
Do not continue driving at any speed or under maneuvering conditions that could cause loss of traction.
In situations where the road surface is covered with ice or snow, the vehicle must be equipped with snow tires or snow chains.
Choose your driving speed according to road conditions.
Normal driving mode
Leave the system on during normal driving so that it activates when needed.
When starting the engine, or immediately after the vehicle starts moving, you may hear a sound in the engine compartment for a few seconds.
This means that the traction control system self-test mode is enabled and does not indicate a malfunction.
During the operation of the traction control system, the following situations may occur:
- – the system regulates the rotation of the front wheels.
At this time, the slip control lamp flashes (Fig. 1);
- – You may feel a vibration or hear a noise when the brakes are applied.
This means that the system is functioning normally.
The slip indicator lamp comes on for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position.
Riding with traction control off
To get out of mud, fresh snow, etc., turn off the traction control.
This system regulates the engine and prevents the front wheels from coming loose.
To turn off the system: press the "TRC OFF" switch (fig. 2).
The "TRC OFF" indicator light will turn on.
The vehicle's stability control system is always on, even when the traction control system is turned off.
Press the "TRC OFF" switch again to turn it on.
The "TRC OFF" indicator lamp will turn off.
The "TRC OFF" indicator light will come on for a few seconds when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position.
The lamp will turn on again when you press the "TRC OFF" switch to turn off the system.
If any of the following situations occur, contact your Toyota dealer:
- – the indicator lamp does not light up when the ignition key is turned to the “ON” position;
- - the indicator lamp remains on after the ignition is turned on;
- – the indicator lamp turns on during normal driving.
