The half-axle assembly with the bearing is replaced when the noise from the rear wheels of the car is increased compared to normal, both when driving in a straight line and when cornering
In this case, increased axial and radial backlashes of the axle shaft are observed.
Axial clearance of not more than 0.7 mm is allowed.
Editing the axle shaft and replacing its bearing is laborious and requires special equipment.
Therefore, we recommend that if axial or radial play of the axle shaft appears, replace the axle shaft assembly.
You will need: 17mm wrench, wheel nut wrench, inertial puller.
Remove the wheel and brake drum (see Removing and installing the brake drum).
Remove the four nuts of the axle bearing plate bolts.
Install the support and raise the rear axle.
Remove the shock absorber bracket from the axle shaft bearing plate bolts
Remove the axle shaft with an inertial puller
In the absence of a puller, install the wheel on the axle shaft and secure it with three nuts, without completely tightening them so that there is a gap between the wheel and the axle shaft.
Press the wheel against the axle shaft and then pull the wheel sharply towards you.
In most cases, after several attempts, the axle shaft can be removed.
If you are not going to change the oil seal, be careful not to damage its working edge.
Fix the brake with wire.
Inspect the axle shaft; if it is bent or cracked, replace it.
Assess the condition of the spline connection; if the splines are creased or badly worn, replace the axle shaft.
Check the condition of the O-ring.
Replace a crumpled or torn ring.
Install the axle shaft and removed parts in the reverse order of removal, paying special attention to the correct position of the O-ring
