Tie rod ends and steering gear rods are replaced in case of wear
We prepare the car and install it on a lift or an inspection ditch
Raise the front, part of the car and remove the wheel, from the side of the work performed
Loosen the tie rod end locknut
We bend the bent mustache of the cotter pin with pliers and remove it from the ball pin of the tie rod end
Unscrew the nut that secures the ball pin of the tip to the steering knuckle arm of the front suspension
If the fasteners are heavily soiled, clean them with a wire brush and treat with WD-40
Install the ball joint puller and press the pin out of the steering knuckle boss
If a puller is not available, the ball joint pin can be knocked out by sharp hammer blows on the end face of the swing arm boss, striking along the lever
Remove the pin from the hole in the steering knuckle arm
Unscrew the tie rod end
When unscrewing the tip, you need to count the number of revolutions so that the toe-in does not change during installation
Install the new tip in reverse order
Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment
Replacing the tie rod
Disconnect the tie rod end as above
We pry off the lock of the inner collar of the thrust cover with a screwdriver
And remove the clamp from the steering gear
In the same way, remove the outer clamp of the steering rod cover from the steering gear
Remove the tie rod cover from the steering gear housing
We unscrew the inner ball joint of the steering rod and disconnect the rod from the rack
The photo shows the unscrewing of the thrust from the removed steering gear. In this case, you need to use a vice with soft sponges
Install the parts in reverse order, taking into account:
- - check the protective cover. If it has cracks or gusts, then we replace the cover
- - install new clamps for fastening the protective cover of the steering rod
Check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment
