Preparing the car for work. Disconnecting the negative battery terminal

We perform work on a lift or a viewing hole

Remove the engine crankcase protection.

Drain the liquid from the cooling system.

Remove the front right wheel.

Remove the accessory drive belt (relevant article).

Remove the timing belt (see the corresponding article).

Remove the timing belt tensioner.

Removing the water pump on a car with a K7M engine: 1 - mounting bolts; 2 - water pump

With heads 8 and 10, we unscrew the bolts 1 (Figure 1), fastening the water pump.

Remove the water pump.

Remove the water pump gasket

We clean the surfaces of the pump and block from the remnants of the gasket

K7M engine water pump bolt tightening order: 1-8 - water pump bolts

Install the pump and tighten according to the drawing numbers.

Tightening with a torque wrench:

  • - bolt 1 (M8) for fastening the water pump 22 Nm (2.2 kgf.m);
  • - bolts 2-8 (M6) for fastening the water pump 11 Nm (1.1 kgf.m).

After this:

Install the timing tensioner.

Install the timing belt.

Install the accessory drive belt.

Install the right front wheel.

Fill the engine cooling system.

Install the crankcase protection.

Connect the ground wire terminal to the battery.

Remove air from the engine cooling system.

Pry off the water pump with a screwdriver and remove it

We apply sealant to the water pump flange, as shown in the photo

We tighten the water pump mounting bolts in the sequence shown in the photo

We tighten the M6 bolts with a torque of 10 Nm, the M8 bolt with a torque of 22 Nm

Install all parts in reverse order

To replace the water pump with K4M engine:

We unscrew the eight bolts securing the water pump to the cylinder block (shown on the removed engine)

Pry off with a screwdriver and remove the water pump

We clean the mating surface of the cylinder block from the remnants of the old sealant

We apply a special sealant to the mating surface of the water pump with a roller with a diameter of about 0.6-1 mm, and the application line should pass from the inside of the mounting holes

Install the pump on the guide pins

We screw in the bolts and tighten them in the sequence shown in the photo

We tighten the M6 bolts with a torque of 10 Nm, the M8 bolt with a torque of 22 Nm

Install the rest of the parts in reverse order

Fill in coolant and remove air pockets from the cooling system
