An anti-theft system (immobilizer) APS-6 is installed on the car

Main technical characteristics of the APS-6 immobilizer

Operating supply voltage range 8-15 V

Operating temperature range –40...+85°С

Consumed current in standby mode, no more than 5 mA

The immobilizer is designed to exclude the possibility of unauthorized starting of the car engine and works in conjunction with the electronic engine control system.

The immobilizer is an electronic unit that does not allow starting the engine without using the ignition key or with the help of an outside key.

An electronic code key is integrated into the head of the ignition key.

When trying to start the engine without using an ignition key with a built-in code key, the immobilizer, without receiving information about the key code, sends a special code command to the electronic engine control unit (controller) that prohibits starting the engine.

The immobilizer has protection against key selection, as well as protection against reading the code transmitted via the code line to the controller.

The immobilizer switches to armed mode automatically when the ignition is turned off.

Also, the immobilizer automatically disarms when the ignition is turned on without any additional actions by the driver.

The APS-6 immobilizer uses a contactless (transponder) method for reading the key code by a receiver located in the ignition switch (lock).

A code key with a built-in cryptographic unit (transponder), which allows the key code to be transmitted in an encrypted, constantly changing form, does not need batteries.

The immobilizer is equipped with two ignition keys.

One key is working - with a black insert, the other is training, with a red insert.

Automotive anti-theft system: 1 - APS control unit; 2 - instrument cluster; 3 - system status indicator; 4 - ignition switch; 5 - communication coil; 6 - training key; 7 - container with transponder (red); 8 - remote control - working ignition key

The immobilizer will only be able to prevent unauthorized starting of the engine if the anti-theft function is activated in the engine management system controller.

If this function is not activated, the engine can be started without the participation of the immobilizer.

Activate the anti-theft function during the immobilizer learning procedure. Once activated, it is not possible to disable the anti-theft function in the engine management system controller.

To start the engine, you can use both a working and a learning ignition key.

When operating the car, only a working key should be used for this purpose for the following reasons:

– learning key stores system codes. Therefore, if it is lost, if the immobilizer malfunctions, it will be necessary to replace the expensive engine management system controller.

Keep the training key separately from the keychain and do not use it under normal conditions;

  • - the training key has a lower cryptographic protection than the working key. Therefore, it is theoretically much easier to read the system codes from such a key if it gets to an intruder;
  • – reading information from the training key takes longer than from the working one. If the battery is in poor condition and there is strong electromagnetic interference, this can lead to difficult starting of the engine;
  • - after turning off the ignition with the learning key, the immobilizer necessarily starts the learning procedure.

The learning procedure is accompanied by an additional indication of a control lamp, which can disorient the driver.

If one working key is not enough for everyday use, the immobilizer allows you to learn another additional working key.

Thus, two working and one training keys can be used simultaneously in the system.

If the working key is lost, you can erase information about it from the immobilizer's memory and, if necessary, learn a new key using a learning key.

If the learning key is lost, deleting information about the keys and learning new keys is not possible.

The immobilizer has a built-in self-diagnosis function with a malfunction message using a warning light in the instrument cluster and an internal buzzer.

In addition, you can diagnose the immobilizer using a tester that works according to the KWP2000 diagnostic protocol.

In addition to protection against unauthorized engine start, the immobilizer performs additional functions:

– controlling the delay for extinguishing the interior lighting;

Location of the car anti-theft system

The APS-6 immobilizer can learn two working keys. You can only train new working keys (that is, those that have not been trained by another immobilizer before) or those that have previously been trained using the training key used in this training procedure.

You can only learn working keys together with a controller in which the anti-theft function is not activated, or with the controller that was taught together with the learning key used in this learning procedure.

To teach the immobilizer:

  • 1. Close all vehicle doors. Turn on the ignition with the learning key and hold the ignition for at least 6 seconds.
  • 2. Switch off the ignition. The control lamp should start flashing at an increased frequency (5 times per second) as long as the learning procedure is being carried out correctly.

When the lamp stops flashing rapidly, it indicates an incorrect operation, a learning time exceeded, or a malfunction. Remove the learning key from the ignition.

  • 3. While the control lamp is flashing (about 6 s), insert the working key into the lock and turn on the ignition. If done correctly, the buzzer will beep three times when the ignition is turned on.
  • 4. Make a shutter speed with the ignition on (about 6 s) until the buzzer sounds two more beeps.

If after 6 seconds the buzzer has not beeped and the rapid flashing of the control lamp has stopped, turn off the ignition and start the procedure again.

If you fail to complete the learning procedure again, this means a malfunction or that this working key has already been trained by another immobilizer.

  • 5. Switch off the ignition. If it is necessary to learn the second working key, then once again perform operations 3-5, including ignition with the second learning working key. If this is not necessary, continue the training procedure.
  • 6. While the control lamp is flashing (about 6 s), remove the trained working key from the ignition, insert the learning key into the lock again and turn on the ignition. If done correctly, the buzzer will beep three times when the ignition is turned on.
  • 7. Make a shutter speed with the ignition on (about 6 s) until the buzzer sounds two more beeps.
  • 8. Turn off the ignition, but do not remove the learning key from the ignition.

Approximately 6 seconds after the ignition is turned off, the buzzer should give a single beep, and the control lamp should start flashing twice as fast.

If the buzzer did not sound, and the fast flashing of the lamp stopped, then you need to turn off the ignition and start the learning procedure again.

If you fail to complete the learning procedure again, this means a malfunction or that this learning key does not fit this controller.

  • 9. Not later than 6 s after the beep (while the lamp is flashing quickly), turn on the ignition with the same learning key.

After waiting 2-3 seconds, turn off the ignition. Not later than 5 seconds after the ignition is turned off, the buzzer should give three beeps, and the warning lamp should stop flashing quickly. Do not turn on the ignition for at least another 10 seconds.

At the end of the learning procedure, it may be necessary to re-synchronize the immobilizer and controller codes, since after the learning procedure is completed, the controller may not allow the engine to be started when the ignition is turned on for the first time.

To re-synchronize the codes, turn on the ignition with any trained key (preferably a working one). Take a shutter speed of 6 s.

If the immobilizer control lamp starts to indicate an erroneous state of the system (blinks 1 time per second), turn off the ignition and wait at least 10 s.

After that, turn the ignition back on. The lamp should not flash, and the engine should start.

If 3 seconds after the ignition is turned on, the control lamp lights up with a constant light, this means that the anti-theft function of the controller is not activated and the learning procedure should be repeated again.

Possible emergency situations arising during the operation of the immobilizer.

If you lose a working key, you must purchase a blank of a new key and cut it to work with the ignition switch installed on the car.

Then perform the immobilizer learning procedure using the existing learning key and the new working key.

If the learning key is lost, it is impossible to carry out the key learning procedure. This means that you can continue to operate the car only with the existing working key.

In case of loss and the remaining working key or failure If the immobilizer is equal, you will have to replace both the immobilizer and the controller with new ones.

After such a replacement, you can cut a new training key blank to work with the ignition switch installed on the car, and carry out the learning procedure.

Due to the importance of the training key, it is recommended not to store this key in the same bundle with the workers and not to use it in everyday operation.

After replacing a faulty immobilizer with a new one, it is necessary to carry out the system learning procedure. In this case, you should use the existing training key from the faulty immobilizer.

The APS-6 immobilizer allows the engine to be started without a learning procedure.

Such a start can only be made with the learning key that was previously used when activating the anti-theft function of the engine control controller installed on the car.

Start the engine like this:

  • - close all doors;
  • - turn on the ignition with the learning key, but do not start the engine;
  • - turn off the ignition (the immobilizer indicator lamp should start flashing quickly);
  • – no later than 6 seconds after the ignition is turned off (while the lamp is flashing), it is necessary to turn the ignition back on with the learning key and start the engine.

If a controller malfunctions, it can be replaced with a new controller that does not have the anti-theft function activated. With such a replacement, the controller will allow the engine to start regardless of the immobilizer.

To activate the anti-theft function of the new controller, you must complete the learning procedure using the available learning and working keys.

It is allowed to replace a defective controller with another one that already has an anti-theft function, but only if the same learning key is used to activate the anti-theft function in the newly installed controller.

Using the learning key from the newly installed controller, you need to carry out the system learning procedure.

When replacing the ignition lock, it is necessary to replace the electronic code elements (transponders) in the ignition key heads of the new lock with the corresponding code elements from the ignition keys removed from the vehicle.

The training procedure after such a replacement is not required. Additional functions of the APS-6 immobilizer

This function allows you to provide interior lighting for some time after the car doors are closed, which makes it easier for the driver to work at night.

For this function to work, the ceiling lamp must be turned off with its switch key.

When the ignition is off and any door is opened, the dome lights up and stays on all the time while the door is open.

After closing the door, the light stays on for another 12 seconds, after which it goes out smoothly for 4 seconds. If you open the door again, until the ceiling has completely gone out, then the ceiling turns on with full heat and burns all the time while the door is open.

If you turn the ignition key to the "on" position until the dome light goes out, the dome light goes out immediately.

Warning about leaving the key in the ignition.

- If the ignition is off, but the key is left in the ignition, then when the driver's door is opened, the buzzer beeps (trill).

Warning about parking lights left on.

- If the ignition is turned off, but the parking lights remain on, then when the driver's door is opened, the buzzer gives 2 beeps.

Power windows can be controlled:

  • – always with the ignition on;
  • – within 30 s from the moment the ignition was turned off, if the car doors were not opened. If the door is opened, and the key is already removed from the ignition at this time, then the control of the power windows becomes impossible immediately after opening the door;
  • - after turning off the ignition and opening any door if the key is in the ignition. If the door is closed or the key is removed from the lock, the power windows cannot be operated.
