Wheel speed sensors generate signals about the speed of each wheel of the vehicle, which are transmitted to the electronic unit of the hydraulic unit

Wheel speed sensors generate signals about the speed of each wheel of the vehicle, which are transmitted to the electronic control unit of the hydraulic unit.

The wheel sensors are based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.

When the wheel rotates, the teeth and cavities of a special rotor pass by the sensor and induce an electrical signal in the sensor winding, the frequency of which is proportional to the angular velocity of the wheel and the number of teeth on the rotor.

The electronic control unit performs logical processing of signals about the speed of the wheels and, depending on their condition (excessive acceleration or deceleration of the wheel), sends control commands to the hydraulic modulator.

According to the commands received, the hydraulic modulator, by turning on or off the solenoid valves, reduces, increases or maintains a constant pressure of the brake fluid in the wheel brake cylinders, thereby ensuring optimal regulation of the braking forces

We remove sensors during repair work or when replacing a faulty sensor

We prepare the car for the task and install it on a lift or a viewing ditch

Disconnect the negative battery terminal

Removing front wheel ABS sensors

When removing the right speed sensor, unscrew the fastening nuts of the adsorber bracket and move the adsorber to the side

When removing the left speed sensor, disconnect the plus terminal from the battery and remove it from the car.

Removing the front wheel speed sensor: 1 - split seal; 2 - front wheel speed sensor connector

Disconnect plug 2 of the front wheel speed sensor harness from the front wire harness.

Remove the seal 1 and push the connector of the sensor harness into the hole in the fender of the car.

We raise the car to a height convenient for work

Replacing the front wheel speed sensor: 1 - front wheel rotor; 2 - speed sensor mounting bolt; 3 - speed sensor; 4 - brackets for fastening the speed sensor harness

Disconnect the front wheel speed sensor harness from the bracket 4

We unscrew the bolt 2 of the sensor 3 to the bracket of the front wheel speed sensor on the steering knuckle

Remove the front wheel sensor

Installation

Install the front wheel speed sensor in reverse order

When installing, you need to take into account the gap between the sensor and the rotor tooth should be 0.72-1.33 mm. Tightening torque of the sensor mounting bolt 8±2 Nm.

Removing and installing the rear wheel speed sensor

We prepare the car for the task and install it on a lift or a viewing ditch

Disconnect the negative battery terminal

We install the car on a lift or a viewing ditch

Raise the car to a comfortable height if the car is on a lift

Rear wheel speed sensor: 1 - speed sensor mounting bolt; 2 - rear wheel speed sensor; 3 - harness fastening bracket; 4 - brackets for fastening the sensor harness; 5 - sensor harness seal

We take out the rubber seal 5 of the sensor harness from the hole in the body

Carefully remove the harness and plug from the body. Disconnecting the block

Disconnect the speed sensor harness from brackets 4 and bracket 3.

We unscrew the bolt 1 of the sensor 2 to the rear axle

And remove the rear wheel speed sensor

Installation

Install the rear wheel speed sensor in reverse order

Before installation, lubricate the O-ring of the sensor with transmission oil

The gap between the sensor and the teeth of the rotor should be 0.13-1.12 mm. Tightening torque of the sensor mounting bolt 8±2 Nm.

If you need to replace the front wheel rotor, you need to replace the drive or outer CV joint

If you need to replace the rear wheel rotor, we replace the axle shaft assembly.
